How much can I expect to pay?
Consultation Fee
Fee for an initial consultation will not exceed £350 (standard fee £300) and fee for any follow-up consultation will not exceed £250 (standard fee £200). These estimates are correct as at the date of this letter. Fees for procedures performed during an outpatient consultation will be made clear to you at the time of the consultation.
Cancellation policy
(Cancellation fees apply to both self-paying and insured patients. *You are personally liable for cancellation fees* and these cannot be passed to your insurer.
Should you cancel your appointment with less than 48 hours notice, a cancellation fee of up to 50% of the appointment charge OR an amount of £125 may be charged. As always, more notice is appreciated for cancellations, so that we can offer your slot to another patient waiting.
Patients are required to pay or provide insurance policy and authorisation details, for all clinic appointments on the day of attendance.
Hand Doctor Practice consultants are fully fee assured with the main insurers (see further notes below). We require that you send us your membership number and a valid authorisation prior to your appointment. Patients attending without the appropriate authorisation from their insurance company will be required to pay for the appointment and reclaim from their insurers.
Video consultations are charged at the same fees as above. Self pay patients would be to have the funds cleared before the video consultation can take place. These fees are correct as of June 2026.
Hospital / Clinic fees
Following your consultation you may need certain tests (such as blood tests or imaging, for example an X-ray, MRI or CT scan) to help the consultant diagnose your condition. Or you may be referred for Hand Therapy by the consultant.
When the test is undertaken by the clinic or hospital, the fees for those tests will be determined by the clinic or hospital and charged to you, or your private medical insurer, separately. If there are any fees which the consultant will charge in relation to any of the tests they advise that you have, the consultant will let you know what those will be.
Private Medical Insurance
If you have private medical insurance, you must contact your insurer before your consultation, to check the terms of your policy, particularly the level and type of outpatient cover you have and your eligibility for further tests, including any reimbursement limits on individual consultation fees. You may need to call the insurer after your consultation if you need further tests or hand therapy.
Please note you are responsible for any fees not covered by your insurer.
